Intelligent Access Controller
The CAMS Intelligent Access Controller is a modular, high-precision, real-time monitoring, automated test, and control hardware platform for continuous monitoring of all layers of RF, IP and QoS. It features Proxilliant’s patented Dynamic Ingress Blocking TM technology. IACs are typically widely deployed deep into the HFC near the last amplifiers and also often at several other strategic locations between the HFC fiber node and customer premises, providing comprehensive health monitoring and multi-point, continuous service verification.

Intelligent Access Controllers provide real-time HFC network health management by continuously monitoring and analyzing the signal levels and return paths. The IAC performs these tasks without impact on the network performance and or its services. Through the active, continuous monitoring of the HFC health, the operator can insure a consistent high quality of service through the entire HFC network. Key functions of the IAC include:
- Continuous ingress analysis, characterization, and fault localization
- Continuous and reliable signal level monitoring and loss of signal reporting to Service Health Manager
- Precision signal level alignment using upstream and downstream pilots from the IAC
- Interactive test and control capabilities for real-time trouble diagnostics, problem isolation, and validation of service restoration
- Configurable intelligence for operationally specific precision
- Rapid installation and system configuration

Intelligent Access Controllers also provide the industry’s first managed ingress suppression technology. The IAC, deployed widely and deep into the access network evaluates and analyzes the return path signals, and when configurable conditions are met, connects the return path for upstream signal transmission. As soon as the signal ends, the return path is disconnected. Again, the IAC performs these tasks without impact on the network performance and or its services. Through the active, continuous suppression of signal-erosive ingress, the operator can insure a consistent high quality of service. The increased S/N ratio reduces packet-loss and provides a more robust network operation to enable increase bandwidth in the return path required for VoIP and next-generation advanced two-way services.
Key functions of the IAC for ingress suppression include:
- Precise measurement of upstream signals to allow valid signals and disable ingress transmission throughout the network
- Configurable upstream signal characterization and frequency range settings for operationally specific precision
- Rapid installation and system configuration, with interactive remote control of ingress suppression enablement
- OEM packaging within third-party taps and amplifiers
